The Nyquest Archive Viewer is a "Paperless Office" solution that allows an organization to index/retrieve documents electronically.

  • The application maps records in a indexing table to "virtual indexing folders".
  • Within these folders, users can then store objects; (e.g. Word Docs, Excel Files, emails, etc).
  • These virtual folders map one-to-one with their paper analogues.
  • Virtually all file types are supported, and the administrator can customize security such that only specific users see specfic files.
  • The application can "plug-in" to existing information systems such as Ellucian Banner®, Peoplesoft HR seamlessly.
  • Files stored electronically are easier to view, edit, find, and manipulate that their paper counterparts.
  • Documents added into the system can be OCR-ed for subsequent content searches (e.g. find all documents will the string "Shanghai Forum 2014").
  • Application supports workflows so that documents can be sent through a custom sequence of users to simulate various "business processes".
  • Supports multiple languages. OCR can also be run in multiple languages such as Norwegian, Chinese and Japanese.

NAV is written in PHP (5.5.x) and can be deployed on Oracle Fusion Middleware, Apache and IIS Servers.

  • Once the application is deployed, a user can simply type in the folder they wish to access, and then view all associated documents within that folder.
  • No more running from office to office, searching through endless file cabinets!

Application components consist of the following:

  • A REST Web Service that handles the indexing/storage/retrieval of all objects. Data is sent using standard web protocols (HTTP GET or HTTP POST). Data is returned back in JSON format.
  • Web-Based Administration Client
  • Web-Based User Client

The core NAV engine is a REST Web Service. It is built with the principle of integration to other applications. All logic is handled within the Web Service. Data is sent using standard HTTP GET or HTTP POST. Data is returned back in Javascript Object Notation (JSON). This allows the application to be very easily integrated with other client applications (.NET, PHP, PERL, Java).

The web-based Administration Client interfaces with the web service allows for the setup of users, object types, security and access control.

The web-based User Client also interfaces with the web service and is the main application for typical users.

In these screens, users can perform most of the typical document management operations. These include:

  • Opening/Viewing a document
  • Adding/deleting a document
  • Moving a document from one folder to another (e.g. if a document was incorrectly indexed)
  • Sub-indexing a document into folder subdirectory (e.g. move all 2013 documents in Folder “John Doe” to a subdirectory called “2013”).
  • Adding a comment to a document.
  • Viewing/editing document OCR metadata.
  • Emailing a document to a user.

Both the Admin and User client applications support ALL major browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome,Safari). HTML5 support is required for "drag/drop" operations.

OCR Ready

The NAV application also uses the Google Tesseract Engine for OCR processing of documents added to the system. The text from the OCR is saved and can then be later used in "Content-based" searches.

Multi-Language Ready

NAV utilizes UTF8 Encoding and the application supports multiple languages. Each user can set his/her language preference within the application. In addition OCR can also be run in multiple languages (currently English, Norwegian, Chinese, Japanese) The following is the user client using Japanese Menus.

Workflow Ready

We at Nyquest know (ALL TOO WELL, unfortunately) that once documents are added into a folder, they often need to be "viewed/edited" by a specific sequence of users for a business process. These processes could be, for example, the handling of new student applications, new resumes/job seekers applications, etc.

With NAV, this type of document routing is built directly into the system. People can stop all that nonsense like constantly sending files to co-workers using Gmail, or Skype, or Facebook.

When NAV Workflow is enabled:

  • User(s) that log into NAV will see a "Processing Tray" with all the folders/documents that they need to process.
  • Once they are done, they hit "Complete", and all objects route to the next person(s) in the sequence.
  • Added security in that documents are always processed within the system.

  • "Paperless Office Solution". Allows for large paper archives to be stored and retrieved electronically.
  • Supports Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Easy to use. Intutive. Requires very little end-user training. Interface supports "drag-drop", "right-clicking" etc.

  • Uses standard Web Protocols for data send and retrievals.
  • Supports virtually ALL file formats (DOCX, PDF, MP3, MP4, PPTX,XLSX,JPG,PNG,etc).
  • Can be directly integrated into existing Banner® and Peoplesoft systems.
